The Louisville Astronomical Society is an organization of individuals interested in various facets of astronomy. Membership benefits include membership in the Astronomical League, use of our private dark sky observing site in southern Indiana and supporting the local astronomy community. We are involved in various areas of astronomy education including scouting, schools, and other groups.

LAS General Info

Member only star parties are held each month at the LAS Observing Site in southern Indiana. Dates and times are listed on the Events list on this site.   The date of the monthly star party is selected to coincide around the new moon at the James G. Baker Observatory in Curby, IN.  Please check this website for cancellations. Please note that members must be logged in to see non-public content on this website.

Monthly FREE star parties open to the general public are held one Saturday each month from March through November. Dates and times are listed on the Events list on this site. The dates of the monthly star parties vary each month at the James G. Baker Observatory in Curby, IN. and are subject to the weather. Please check this website for cancellations if the weather is not calling for a clear sky.

Currently the LAS is promoting astronomy in the community through periodic programs at the Louisville Free Public Library, the Big Four Bridge in Indiana, Scouting Merit Badge Programs, club public and school observations and programs.
